Administrative Medical Technologist


Main purpose of job: To manage and supervise the activities of the laboratories including billing, diagnostic methods and products and maintaining quality results by participating in the Department's quality assurance program and providing effective supervision of assigned staff.

Qualifications

  • An undergraduate Degree in Medical Technology.
  • A minimum of 4 years' relevant work experience, at least two (2) of which must be at the level of Chief Technologist.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain adequate stock of medical laboratory materials and supplies.
  • Maintain medical laboratory equipment performance.
  • Implement new programs, tests, methods, instrumentation and procedures by investigating alternatives, preparing proposals, developing and performing parallel testing and monitoring.
  • Assist with the commercialization of the laboratory services provided by the Department.
  • Overseeing Bill for services; close monitoring of payments of bills by end users; providing the billing office with service codes. Account for all collections of payment to Department. Prepare reports for HOD. Maintain approach directed by UWI auditors: warnings then suspension of service in the event of non-payment.
  • Prepare and submit to Head of Department:
    • recommendations regarding equipment/materials
    • annual departmental reports and statistics in relation to laboratory services
    • Preliminary budget for the laboratories
  • Facilitates teaching and research by:
    • liaising with appropriate staff members in connection with time tabling usage
    • initiating sourcing of chemicals and supplies necessary for monitoring laboratory procedures for equipment replacement, service, and repair.

 

Competencies Required

  • Working knowledge of at least one laboratory information system;
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills
  • Report writing skills
  • Ability to supervise and direct staff supervised;
  • Excellent administrative, communication, technical and organizational skills;
  • Excellent interpersonal and client service skills with a willingness to undertake a wide variety of roles, shift functions, and be flexible with respect to job function.
